Music Monday: "Hometown Glory" - Adele

It's very possible that to my close friends I'm becoming extremely predictable... everyone knows I love this song haha.
Adele is one of my favorite artists right now, Her talent is unquestionable, we're the same age, and I feel like I can relate to her and her music despite how different we may actually be. It's funny how you find the smallest most unlikely connections with people... hmm...

Anyway, I love this song. It reminds me of the place I grew up and how much I love it, regardless of the "PG girl" stereotypes I get in Pittsburgh.

Enjoy :)

An interesting topic came up in conversation the other day...

How much is too much to share with your friends about your love life? My first instinct was to say "don't tell them anything", but at the same time, aren't your friends supposed to be the ones you can confide in? Talk to when you need to get something off your chest? Or if you had an amazing experience and you really want to share, who else are you supposed to share with?

Yes, I think it's healthy to have people that you can trust and confide in. And it's only naturally for people to talk and want to talk. BUT... shouldn't some things be kept sacred? I'm just saying, not everything is meant for everyone. Not only that, but everything you tell your friends becomes their boyfriend/girlfriend's business.
As much as most of you hate to admit it, you tell your bf/gf all your friend's business.

"Hey boo.... OMG you will never guess what Suzie told me..."

yea it happens all the time.

trust your friends, but understand that your business is their business, and their busness is their man's business. just sayin....

Thanksgiving

*what an original title*

The Break was great, and definitely much needed. I got to spend time with my family, reconnect with some old friends, eat eat then eat some more. AAHHH it was great.

Being in my parent's house was a bittersweet experience. Me and that house have a love/hate relationship. to me it's just a house, it doesn't really feel like my home anymore. Home would be anywhere my family is.
I don't think I REALLY feel truely at home anywhere, which is a shame haha. I've lived in 3 different places since I moved to Pittsburgh, and I'm about to start looking for home #4, which is a crazy thing within itself...
But anyway, a break is exactly what I needed and I'm glad I took it. :)
It was disappointing to forget the real reason for the holiday, but I quickly caught myself ;)
The time to reflect felt good. just to think about all the things I'm thankful for, reflect upon my life... where it is and where I want it to go. Of course, no one's life is perfect, but I can honestly say I'm pretty damn lucky. I gotta work on that "complaining" thing I do sometimes. The things that stress me out are nothing compared to what a lot of people in this world go through.

Moral of the story: focus on the positive. strive to do and be better. be greatful for the lives we've been given... and put a smile on :)

Words I HATE: pussy

The P-word is the most vile, disgusting, foul, nastiest word I've ever heard. I HATE IT.

The funniest part about it is, I don't care if other people say it, but I myself CANNOT bring myself to say it. I can say pussycat, but not the P-word by itself.

Isn't there something skin crawling about it? Just hearing it come out of my mouth 1.sounds completely unnatural because I generally don't speak that way and 2.becuase I find the word so nasty that saying it would take A LOT of effort. I'm pretty sure I would have to be drunk, it would be an accident, or someone would have to bet/dare/pay me to say it.

And why must we refer to femal gentalia in such a derrogatory manner? I'm not a feminist ,but if someone said to me "I really want that pussy" I would probably vomit in their face.

I've thought a lot about it, and I'm considering taking the plunge into to world of..... chemical relaxers *dun dun dun*

Yea, I never thought this day would come either. I get so many compliments on my hair all the time, and yes its flattering, but really its a pain in the ass, and for a number of reasons.

1. I have a ton of hair. Its very thick and full, and although most people say thats a wonderful thing, its gets on my nerves. Its so heavy... sometimes my necks hurts from the added weight on my head (just kidding)

2. It grows like weeds. I guess its nice that my hair generally grows very quickly, but at the same time, that just contributes to the weight. Which leads me to number 3...

3. I am ADDICTED to haircuts. I've been doing really well the past few months because certain people have expressed that they would rather I have long hair, so I've been trying hard not to cut it. But because its so thick, I am constantly tempted to cut it to make it more manageable

4. I hate the idea of chemicals, but having natural hair makes me use a lot of heat to keep it straight (its naturally curly and rather frizzy). HEAT= damage. HEAT= time, which i do not have.

5. I DON'T HAVE TIME FOR THIS MESS! the amount of time i spend on my hair is ridiculous. I wash, blow dry, and straighten twice every week and it literally takes hours. Hours that I don't always have.

So.... i'm really leaning towards this relaxer thing. What my stylist has been telling me for the past couple years is that it's not necessary but I could do it if I wanted to.

PROS: it would cut my styling time in half, I wouldn't cut my hair as often
CONS: its possible my hair would be flat and lifeless, I hate the greasiness and chemicals, my curls would be nonexistent (doesn't matter because I don't wear them anyway)

I can't really decide what to do.

ps. I'm not a hair relaxer virgin. I got one when I was 8 or 9. My grandmum did it and it ruined my hair so I left it alone until about 8th grade I think it was. After that I got them once or twice a year, which was enough for maintenance. Then, about 2 and a half years ago, I completely stopped and grew all my hair out natural and cut out all the processed hair little by little and now I'm 100% natural (almost a year now)

Music Monday- "Flaws and All"

This post is inspired by a lovely and long overdue visit I got last night by a close friend of mine. I hadn't seen her in a while and we haven't been talking every single day like we used to, but when we hung out it was like nothing had ever changed, which is the way great relationships are supposed to be, right?

So I used this song to describe her when I was randomly talking about her that same day, and then she came to visit. It was so crazy how that happened, but the point is, despite the things that happen or the "flaws" that every one of us have, you still keep your loyalty to certain people no matter what happens, and that's how she is to me :)

Ok enough with the cheese, I'm getting annoyed with myself for all the mushy emotional posts lately. More fun and interesting things to come soon.
Enjoy the song... I'm not usually the biggest Beyonce fan, but this one got me ;)

NOTE: this isn't a lesbian ode to my friend. The song indirectly relates to the situation, ok? Let's think outside the box guys...

Music Monday: "Loved you Tonight"- John Peter West

This is really exciting for me becuase this has been one of my favorite songs in the whole world of all time for a while now, but I never knew there was a video for it. I always thought John West was this indie singer/songwriter that no one knew existed, who just posted random songs on his myspace page, but when I stumbled upon this video, literally 10 minutes ago, my heart smiled :)

The video is a little weird to me,this one girl ruined it, but I love the song. Actually I more than love this song, I just don't know a word for that...

Paris Post #2

She hates when I do this, so I hope she never finds out. But....
This is my baby sister Paris. She is a very young 13 year old. Isn't she gorgeous?
To be honest, I kinda wish she wasn't! My poor baby, growing up so very quickly, entering a world of teenage problems, boys and their hormones, high school coming up soon.... I don't think I can handle it!
I know she can't stay my little angel forever, but can't we push it back just a little? Change is such a scary thing, but in most cases its inevitable. So my point here is, embrace the changes in your life instead of being afraid of them (like I am in this case).
Maybe the changes are hard to handle at first (like the idea of a boy trying to kiss her, or watching her text all day.. that still freaks me out), but they can be beneficial in the end. I'm gaining a sister I have to baby less, hopefully more of a friend, I can begin corrupting her soon *evil laugh*
Hopefully this NEW PARIS won't be so bad. Actually, I know it won't be. But I'm still gonna miss the days she went to ballet class, before she fell in love with sports. And when she couldn't pronounce the word "yellow" or say my name correctly. Or when she was a bride for Halloween, or when we cried at her 6th grade graduation.
Now we'll have new memories to make. New changes to embrace. :)

Stress is a BITCH

I'm becoming more and more stressed these days, but not exactly handling it in the best way.

So its time for me to find a new coping mechanism. I don't like being overwhelmed with life, feeling like I can't handle the things being thrown at me. Can't deal. It messes with my sleep and my attitude. Patience goes out the window and I tend to be mean to people, especially the ones I like the most. Its backwards, but its true.

I like to be in control of the things going on in my life and as soon as I feel like I'm losing that control, all hell break's loose. What's worse is I don't like being not good at something. Of course there are some things like drawing or basketball that I know I'm horrible at and couldn't care less. But when it comes to things that I feel are necessary in my life that I'm not accmplishing, I feel like I'm failing. which leads to stress.

So, how does one deal with such situations:

1. I used to meditate every single day. Now I'm down to twice a week. It definitely helped me to calm down, clear my mind, be more optomistic about my day. Gotta get back into that habit. (Refer to the BE STILL post)

2. Count to TEN? This doesn't work for me... so scratch that.

3. Excercise. DEFINITELY works. Raquetball is one of my favs. Pretend the ball is your stressor... then hit it. It's great.

4. Seek Therapy. For me, I don't think it's that serious. But then again, I never think I have problems. And everyone does...

5. And finally an old favorite of mine- Create an alternate world you like a lot better and pretend to live in it. This isn't for crazy people, I promise. I would just pretend my problems didn't exist and ignore the things that bothered me. *Avoiding your problems is never the answer, but its a nice little temporary fix.
